Wings Over Camarillo

Wings Over Camarillo featured a variety of general aviation, homebuilt, and replica airplanes. The show wrapped up with an action packed warbird flyby that included a pair of Lockheed P-38 Lightnings and a replica Supermarine Spitfire. North American B-25 Mitchell Executive Sweet provided rides for aviation buffs.
Moraine Saulnier MS760 N7601R was built in 1961. Its construction number is 60. It has been registered to Eljay Aviation Incorporated since November 5, 2008.
Piper J3C-65 Cub NC23266 was built in 1939. Its construction number is 3113. It has been registered to John Vautin since March 19, 2007.
Sky Dancer N627F was built in 2005 by Steven Fisher. Its construction number is 001. It has been registered to Steven Fisher since February 24, 2005.
Ventura County Sheriff's Department Bell 212, N212VC was built in 1975. Its construction number is 30693. It has been registered to the Sheriff's Department since April 26, 2001.
Fairchild PT-19 (M-62A) N641BP wears construction nnumber H.O.274.
Grumman F8F-2 Bearcat N7825C originally wore Navy BuNo 122674 and it carries that number again today. Its Grumman construction number is D.1227. It was built in 1948. E. Weiner of Los Angeles registered it under its current tail number in 1958. Leo Demeers of Aurora, Oregon bought it in 1963 and sold it to Larry Hamilton and Hamilton Aircraft of Sonoma, California the same year. Richard Tobey of Newport Beach, California in acquired it in 1966 and then sold it to Paul Finefrock of Hobart, Oklahoma in 1969. Gary Levitz of Long Beach, California picked it up later that year. It has belonged to the Confederate Air Force since 1972. It underwent a major rebuild from 1989 to 1991. It made its first flight after the rebuild on December 17, 1991. It is now registered to the American Airpower Heritage Flying Museum and based with the Southern California Wing of the Commemorative Air Force at Camarillo.

Fairchild M-62A N50426 was built in 1943. Its construction number is T43-5197. It has been registered to William Spriggs since March 3, 1986.

Super Stallion N777ZS was built by Dennis Deirenfield in 2007 and has been registered to him since September 15, 2007.
Dickenson Howard GA20 N273MD is a replica based on the design of Mr. Mulligan. It was built by Bruce Dickenson and has been registered to him since March 26, 2008.
Glassair II N707SB has been registered to Sam Tabor since July 1, 2002. Its construction number is 3237.

North American T-28C Trojan N531KG was delivered to the US Navy as BuNo 140531 in 1954.
North American T-28A Trojan N81643 served the Air Force as 49-1643. Its construction number is 159-155. Norman B. Dennis Jr. of Brookneal, California registered it as N9674C in 1966. Robert Eggmann of Belleville, Illinois registered it as N28RE in 1978. Edward A. Buerckholtz of Chesterfield, Missouri registered it as N81643 in 1985. It has been registered to Round Power Limited of Reno, Nevada since March 4, 2004. It is restored in the colors of a T-28A that was flown by the Air Force Test Pilot School at Edwards Air Force Base in the 1950s. It is based at the Santa Barbara Airport.
NA-50 replica N202LD was based on a Canadian Car & Foundry Harvard Mk IV that was built in 1952. It was modified sometime before 1990. Its construction number is 20470. It has been registered to R & L West Group LLC since March 11, 2009.
Canadian Car & Foundry Harvard Mk IV N7520U was built in 1952. Its construction number is CCF-4-176.
North American SNJ-5 Texan N1038A War Dog was built in 1944. Its U.S. Navy Bureau Number was 90917 and it still wears that number on its tail. It has been a familiar sight on the airshow circuit for many years. It is owned and piloted by John Collver.

North American SNJ-5 Texan N1038A War Dog
North American SNJ-5 Texan N89014 was ordered by the Army Air Corps as 41-34524, but it was diverted to the U. S. Navy as BuNo 84865 in 1943. Its construction number is 88-16676. It spent some time in the service of the Japan Maritime Self Defense Force. Dennis G. Buehn and Warbirds West of Compton, California recovered it from Japan in October 1977 and registered it as N89014. Brandon O'Brien bought it in 1979. The former Confederate Air Force of Harlingen, Texas acquired it in 1986. It is painted in the markings of a training plane as used by BTU-3 at Sanfley Field, Florida in 1954-54.

Douglas C-53D Skytrooper N45366 carries construction number is 11757. It was delivered to the Army Air Corps as C-53D, 42-68830. It is in the collection of the Inland Empire Wing of the Commemorative Air Force at the Riverside, California Airport.

Grumman F6F-5 Hellcat N1078Z Minsi III. Its construction number is A-5634. John Sandberg recovered it from the Fergus Falls Airport in Minnesota in 1962. It was subsequently owned by Lloyd Nolan from 1972 to 1973 and Ed Messick from April 9, 1973 to 1990. The Confederate Air Force acquired it in 1990. It has been registered to the American Airpower Heritage Flying Museum since 1991. It is part of the collection of the Southern California Wing of the Commemorative Air Force and is based at Camarillo.
Mitsubishi A6M3 Model 22 "Zero" NX712Z is part of the collection of the Southern California Wing of the Commemorative Air Force. I has been registered to the Liberty Aero Corporation since February 1998. Its Mitsubishi construction number is 3869. It was found on New Guinea near the town of Babo. Its restoration was begun in Russia and completed in the United States. It is powered by a Pratt & Whitney R-1830 radial engine.
Vought F4U-1A Corsair NX83782 is registered to the Planes of Fame Museum at Chino, California. It is the oldest airworthy Corsair. It flew for the Navy as Buno 17799 and still carries that number on its tail. It was used as a movie prop by MGM Studios. The Ontario Air Museum acquired it in 1970. It was restored to airworthy condition in 1977.
Supermarine Spitfire Mk IX replica N1940K was built by Robert Deford and has been registered to him since September 14, 2000. it is powered by an Allison V-12 engine.
North American P-51D Mustang N4132A served the Army Air Corps as 44-74445. its construction number is 122-40985. It was delivered to the Royal Canadian Air Force with tail number 9594 on November 8, 1950. It was struck off charge on December 4, 1956. Stinson Field Aircraft of San Antonio, Texas acquired it in October 1956 and registered it as N4143A. Truman E. Miley and Big Piney Aviation of Roy, Utah bought it on May 3, 1957. M. L. Alson and Aero Enterprises Incorporated of Elkhart, Indiana acquired it on October 1, 1959 and registered it as N4132A. George E. Monea and Mario I. Corbi of Alliance, Ohio bought it on August 5, 1961 and sold it to Harold J. Shelton of Belle Fourche, South Dakota on March 28, 1962. Grazing Incorporated of Alzada, Montana acquired it on May 9, 1962 and modified it for cloud seeding. M. L. Alson and Aero enterprises Incorporated of Elkhart, Indiana regained possession of it in October 1962 and sold it to Richardson Construction Company of Sterling, Virginia on November 2, 1962. Harold L. Barkman of Indianapolis, Indiana bought it on January 15, 1963 and sold it to John E. Dilley of Auburn, Indiana in November 1967. Bill H. Hubbs of Pecos, Texas acquired it on May 5, 1969 and raced it as race #71 Sugar Booger. It has been registered to Holland Holdings LLC of Hendeerson, Nevada since February 15, 2008 and flies as Pecos Bill.
North American B-25J N30801 Executive Sweet and Nanchang CJ-6s N250RL, N556TR, N9278F, and N595JF.
North American B-25J Mitchell N30801 Executive Sweet has been registered to the American Aeronautical Foundation of Thousand Oaks since 1985. Its Army Air Force serial number was 44-30801 and its North American construction number is 108-35126. It was converted to the TB-25N configuration before its retirement by the Air Force. It was registered as N3699G by Avery Aviation of Greybull, Wyoming in 1963. Filmways Inc. of Hollywood acquired it in 1968 for use in the movie Catch-22. Challenge Publications bought it in 1972 and changed its registration to N30801 in 1978.
Lockheed P-38J Lightning NL7723C was delivered to the Army Air Force as photo-reconnaissance F-5G 44-26981. Its construction number is 7985. Aero Exploration Company Incorporated of Tulsa, Oklahoma acquired it from the War Assets Administration at Kingman, Arizona for $1,250 on March 22, 1946. It was registered as NX53752 on May 10, 1946 and then as N53752 in 1948. It was withdrawn from service in Tulsa, Oklahoma in July 1949. Spartan Air Services Limited of Ottawa, Ontario registered it as CF-GCH in December 1951. It suffered a landing gear collapse at Duluth, Minnesota on May 3, 1953. Hycon Aerial Surveys of Pasadena, California registered it as N5596V on November 8, 1956. It was retired and stored in the open at Las Vegas in December 1959. Don E. May of Phoenix, Arizona bought it on June 25, 1962 and sold it to Ben W. Widtfeldt and Desert Aviation Incorporated of Phoenix, Arizona on June 19, 1963. Aero Enterprises of La Porte, Indiana acquired it on September 9, 1963 and sold it to Laurel Walsh of Birmingham, Michigan on November 11, 1963. J.W. Bohmier and New London Airport of New London, Pennsylvania bought it on December 6, 1963 and sold it to Jim Cullen and Westair Company of Westminster, Colorado on Nov. 2, 1964. Troy G. Hawkins of Wichita Falls, Texas acquired it on September 9, 1965 and sold it to L. James Ausland and Sports Air of Seattle, Washington on April 20, 1967. William E. Padden of Los Angeles, California bought it on April 20, 1968 and sold it to I.N. "Junior" Burchinal of Paris, Texas on August 19, 1970. It struck a car and trailer while landing and suffered a landing gear collapse at Paris, Texas on May 23, 1971. David M. Boyd and Eagle Aviation of Tulsa, Oklahoma acquired the wreckage on April 2, 1973 and sold it to John P. Silberman of Key West, Florida on January 4, 1979. It was rebuilt at Live Oaks, Florida and made its first flight in September 1985. The Museum Of Flying at Santa Monica, California acquired it in October 1989 and fitted it with a conventional fighter nose in 1990. William Lyons and Martin Aviation of Santa Ana, California bought it on May 20, 1990. It was damaged in a gear up landing at Winslow, Arizona in August 1992. David Price, Liberty Aero Corp, and the Museum Of Flying at Santa Monica, California acquired it on November 6, 1995 and traded it to the Commemorative Air Force in September 2002. Vintage Fighters LLC of Corona del Mar, California registered it as NL7723C on June 10, 2005.
Lockheed P-38J Lightning NX138AM 23 Skidoo is registered to the Air Museum at Chino. It was built as Army Air Corps 44-23314. It was acquired by the Hanfield School of Aeronautics in Santa Maria, California in 1950. Jack Hardwicke of El Monte, California registered it as N29Q in 1954. He sold it to the Air Museum in Ontario, California in 1960 where it sat on static display for seventeen years. It was restored to flying condition, making its first flight on July 22, 1988. It then went to the Planes of Fame East museum in Minnesota. Bob Pond purchased it in October 1989 and registered it as N38BP.It returned to the Air Museum at Chino in 1998. It is powered by a pair of Allison V-1710 twelve-cylinder engines.

Butler and Butler Farm Air Service of Redmond, Oregon registered it as N7235C in 1963. It flew as tanker F17 and later as 17. TBM Incorporated of Tulare, California flew it as tanker E64 from 1969 to 1979. Military Aircraft Restoration Corporation of Chino, California acquired it in 1982. It was loaned to the Combat Air Museum of Topeka, Kansas from 1992 to 1996. The Fighter Collection at Duxford, UK registered it as G-RUMT in June 1996. It was rebuilt by Steve Hinton and Fighter Rebuilders at Chino. It has been registered to Avstar International of Seattle, Washington since July 10, 2007.
